Signalling questions the use of queer coding as a means of persecution. Cowbells are traditionally used to track livestock. Playing with lesbian “flagging” on belt loops, the cowbell reflects the fear of pride languages used as methods of persecution under a fascist regime. At what point will our symbols of pride be used to identify and target?
